Broke: Crocodile used to be part of the Whitebeard pirates and then when whatever made him leave happened, shit went down and Newgate cut his hand off
Woke: Crocodile used to be part of the Whitebeard pirates and bore the jolly roger tattoo (that most of the crew seem to have) on his hand, then when whatever made him leave happened, he cut his own hand off to remove any lasting ties to Newgate

I have a lot of fic ideas. Can’t decide what I want to do. If you decide to read any of this lol, please let me know what looks good.
First: Alternate universe - Canon Divergence Where Crocodile, Mihawk, and Doflamingo also are raised on the the Oro Jackson and this would be around the time Buggy and Shanks were 6 or 7. Setting would be mainly Marineford, during Timeskip, and after Timeskip though. Showing differences to how they acted in canon. Also they’d treat Buggy far better. Buggy would be transgender and with the help of Ivankov would finally have her body. The trio plus Shanks wouls be happy for buggy but it’s harder to control their feelings about the clown.
Second: Alternate Universe - Modern Setting with Powers Buggy is a stripper and escort(people pay for his time not sex) on off days. He enjoys his work, basking in the attention and exhilaration. So do his customers, specifically a few(Shanks, Croc, Mihawk, and Doffy). Who would like to have more and go about getting it in different ways, consensually of course.
Third: Crocodile and Mihawk start treating Buggy better then end up courting him together. It’s fragile but wonderful. Shanks is trying to rekindle their romance: After finally being invited to Karai Bari(I guess I forgot the right name lol) by Buggy he’s unsettled to learn that the other two have a head start. He invites Rayleigh to the island in the guise of a family reunion. Hijinks ensue that end up making Croc and Mihawk look bad, which usually doesn’t bother them but it’s their boyfriend’s dad whose the legendary Dark King no less. So yeah, not good.
Fourth: Buggy has several friends with benefits(Shanks, Croc, Mihawk, Doffy, and Marco) Who never said it was but Buggy assumed so then ran with it. Each of them finds out the clown has other bed partners and who they are which… they don’t take well(No physical or sexual abuse). At a pirate retreat their acquaintances take advantage of the situation and use Buggy to rile them up with no release. So as to enact revenge against them for various petty reasons.
edited the first one because the way I described the guys reaction to Buggy’s transitioned body could come across wrong. To be clear, there is no transphobia. It’s essentially “you were already amazing and now even more so, my little heart can’t take it.

Ko-Fi prompt from Anonymous Supporter:
For the Econ Topic, an analysis on a society that has magic and fantasy races would be nice. Or maybe how a guild of Thieves or Assassins would work in either real life, fantasy or sci-fi setting.
The former is far too varied and complicated a topic to fit into 500 words, but I can definitely make the latter work... by explaining what the fuck a guild is.
These days, the words guild and union are used more or less interchangeably, and they do admittedly have some overlap in modern capitalist society. In the historic Europe that many of these settings are inspired by, the word guild had a more specific meaning.
Let's unpack some of what the economic structure is in these settings.
Large, overarching companies engaging in multinational work are rare in those historic settings. You have some trading/merchant organizations (e.g. the Dutch East India Company) that fit that bill, work that couldn't be performed without a large, existing structure to back it (e.g. mining), and domestic agricultural lordship (you know, feudalism).
For the rest of the economy, though, you have small businesses. Technology isn't at such a point that something bigger can be done. Factories aren't a thing until the industrial revolution, but we do have division of labor, so there are people who specialize in baking, or weaving, or shoemaking, or pottery.
Many of these professions require years of training, from apprenticeship to journeyperson to mastery. Trade secrets are a big deal, you marry off your daughter to your apprentice to secure the line and prevent competition, and you try not to give up those secrets because if you do, what's to keep your lord and other rich folk from taking advantage of you, and paying you less than your worth?
That's where the guild comes in.
No matter how good you are at keeping secrets, the competition does exist. You cannot be the only baker, dressmaker, shoemaker, bricklayer, carpenter in town, unless your town is very small indeed.
Price competition isn't a great idea when profit margins are already low, and you are a small business that doesn't have the diversification or coffers to take the hit for a few weeks. If your lord tries to force you to sell low, you can't just refuse him! He's the one that pays whoever uses the swords!
If only you and all the other trained professionals in your industry could hold together and tell him, "Yeah, that's as low as the price can go. You are paying for the bare minimum of materials and labor with that. So sorry, can't go lower without taking an actual loss, and everyone else will tell you the same thing."
Joining a guild was often the only way to perform that craft or service in a given city. This prevented untrained, untested individuals from trying to peddle something that wasn't up to standard, but also acted as a form of gatekeeping that could prevent the market from becoming oversaturated with competition. The formation of a guild was often related to, or even reliant on, approval from local government or a monarch.
Guilds did absolutely have negative impacts, by the way, often through market manipulation and rent-seeking behaviors. They stifled innovation, gatekept skills, and were capable of price-gouging and price-fixing beyond the basic "this is how we keep from getting screwed over by the rich guys." While the guilds themselves were arguably intended to ensure minimum standards and protect against wealthy clientele, they were just as prone to stagnation and greed as any organization.
The guild differs from the unions in that the guild is for trained professionals that, by and large, own their business to some degree. The unions, meanwhile, are for laborers who work for someone else, and formalized labor unions only began in the mid-18th century, while trade guilds, or something like them, date back over four thousand years.
Remember how I said that factories as we know them, and that whole Big International Company format, didn't really start being a thing until the Industrial Revolution? You know how the Industrial Revolution started in the mid-18th century?
We now see the connection.
So, what does a guild of thieves or assassins mean, at its core?
Well, they have to be doing this professionally. Someone who's just killing for the fun of it isn't a professional assassin, being paid by other people for it, just like how the baker's guild isn't going to care overly much for the farmer's wife making her own bread for dinner. Thievery is a bit less obvious in terms of 'what counts as professional.' Does the person who picks pockets to pay their rent qualify as professional? Or just the ones who steal on behalf of someone else? What about burglars?
So part of what you'd need to untangle is what qualifies as professional for the thieves themselves.
Then, given that these are generally illegal acts in the first place, what purpose does the guild serve? Is the guild supported by the crown as a form of control over theft and assassination in the first place, like privateering? Does the guild institute rules on who can be stolen from, whether or not it's within guild rules to kill individuals of certain ages or genders or classes? What punishments does the guild implement on those who violate those rules?
If the crown allows the assassin's guild so long as members of the royal family are not targeted, is there a rule that any client who requests the assassination of a monarch must be reported, or killed on the spot? What government fees does the guild have to pay in order to exist? If they exist as an underground, unofficial group that is not affiliated with the government, how do they deal with the government? How do they hide? Do they dictate pricing? Do they pay off cops to stay under the radar? How do they advertise their services without getting found out?
For the thieves guild, it's even more wiggly. Who qualifies as a professional? Is it the pickpockets, the cat burglars, the people who climb into dragon's caves to locate ancient treasure and get out unseen? Is there a minimum yearly income threshold? How is that calculated? What about membership fees? Is membership singular, or can it be done as a couple, a team, a family? Are there groups that are off limits? Maybe there are two thieves guilds, one for those who can be Hired By Adventurers, acknowledged by the crown, and a second for those who work in the seedy underground away from official oversight.
There really is no one way for this to play out, and will probably vary from town to town or planet to planet in-story, but hopefully I've given you the framework to build up the various guilds you need for your story!
(Prompt me on ko-fi!)

One Piece Chapter 1121 - Initial Thoughts
Tumblr media
And we are back
I had the week off for my mid-year battery recharge (which hasn't gone too well, I keep waking up at 5 D: and the days have flown by) but it means I'm right on the button for the One Piece chapter to come out.
We're on our way off the island, this time for real, as it seems Egghead's closing in on its wrap up. Let's see what's left to go!
Spoilers for the Chapter, Support the Official Release too!
Color Spread is Sexy Nami with ice cream, which not complaining but now that I think about it is a common theme for color spreads
Say Oda how about a Sexy Robin with ice cream color spread eh? Just putting it out there
We pick up where we left off with Saturn perched on the Giants' longboat, Luffy warning the giants about the poison claws
Luffy looks to wind up an attack, but stops having seen Bonney revving up her Nika form again
Instead Luffy plays guard, knocking Saturn's attacks away from her
Bonney is gritting through exhaustion to maintain this form, but Luffy is encouraging her to follow through
Vegapunk continues with his broadcast, noting that a 'Day of Awakening' is coming; the secrets will uncover and the Ancient Weapons will once again be released
Cameos for Shirahoshi and Vivi
Conis as well! And Nola the Snake as we view Skypeia. It's hard to see but probably Aisa and Wyper too!
Vegapunk also notes how people of unique ancestry are hunted or culled, causing Kuma to think back about his past, Marco to think back about Whitebeard's comment about gods, King and Pudding also are reminded of their alienation
Saturn once again tries to attack Bonney-Nika (Bonnika?) saying she's just a parrot imitating what she can't understand
Once again though Luffy stomps away the attack, letting Bonney fully confront the orchestrator of her family hardship
Bonney recalls the memories of Kuma, what Saturn said to him on God Valley, what Saturn told her he did to Ginny, panels also showing Sentomaru and Kizaru as she scorns at Saturn for what he did to her family
She refutes his godhood, noting that real gods exist, and heroes do too - paneling to Kuma
'All I ever wanted was for the three of us to live in peace' - many want Bonney to be Nakama but this quote emphasises why I don't, she's not in it for the treasure, she's a 12 year old child who wants her family
Creating one final image of her ideal life, with Kuma and Ginny both together with her, she prepares to let loose
On one side we continue Vegapunk's transmission, about the reckoning that will come when the answers show themselves, everyone must be on guard, but he has faith in science
The transmission glitches from Emeth's battle with Ju Peter and Warcury, but the message notes that Roger and Whitebeard's death prove that a new age is heralded by a passing of legends
Backed by Luffy's Dawn Gatling, Bonney hits Saturn square with a Liberating Nika Punch
The onslaught is enough to knock Saturn off the boat with the powerful quote 'There are certain individuals who can't be oppressed'
The giants celebrate, Bonney cries in catharsis and Luffy commends her while laughing, but the heartstrings are left for Kuma, weakly smiling at his daughter's success
The longboat then notice the Sunny, making its rapid descent
Usopp of course is panicked for the landing, but Zoro seems ready to cut...I mean use Zeus maybe? or Mil Fleur Wing to glide down?
Vegapunk thinks to Roger, about the unable to be oppressed are closest to the truth, and whether that was Roger's plan all along
Rayleigh sleeps from his boozing as miscellaneous pirates connect the dots
Fullalead is in celebration while Shanks denies (lying) that he's drinking too much
The Emperor's territories are shown as Vegapunk notes that whoever finds the answers may not be the one Joy Boy wants
On Emptee Bluffs Buggy's legend grows, while Crocodile and Mihawk realise the gravity of the situation
Damn even the Navy are talking about finding it first, but the unknown speaker is reminded that their role is to protect the innocent
The world will be decided by whoever finds it: The One Piece
The four emperors (Buggy's crying XD), Akainu, Dragon, Imu, Koby, Aokiji, Sabo, Garling and a very shadowed man drawing a sword are our final panel, along with telling us there's a break next week
Well, it's gonna be a free for all now
Vegapunk seems to have been positioning himself as the Whitebeard and Roger figure who will trigger the events of the era with his death, but I'm still wondering why he wanted the video display? He's a perfectionist so he'd want it for something right!
While last chapter I noted that I expected Kuma to be the one to push away Saturn, I love the way we did it for Bonney. She was forced to inherit the hardship of her parents and yet she pushed through and, much like she did to Alufa, punched her way to freedom. I love that Luffy had her back throughout as well, he knew how important it was for her to fight for her own freedom rather than be handed it, it doesn't matter if his punches did more damage, the act of doing it and the catharsis of having done it is what matters.
Our next wrinkle seems to be getting the Sunny to land safely, but as you noticed there's already two very easy options to do. So I would suppose now that the Straw Hats and Giants are scot free, but things on Egghead aren't entirely done; Emeth, Sentomaru, the Seraphim, CP0, and York all still feel like lingering factors that can continue as the Straw Hats escape, not to mention the media fallout that'll occur.
With Vegapunk's announcement, pirates are gonna be much bolder in pursuing the One Piece, which'll likely make the WG feel entitled towards hitting harder too, this remains Final Saga energy at its fullest and this is arc 1 of said final Saga; the Cross Guild, Elbaf, Law, Kid, the Grand Fleet, the final Poneglyph, Vivi, Uranus, Shanks, Blackbeard, the Revolutionaries, Imu, there is still so much still to deal with and resolve
5 years my ass Oda, there is still much to look forward to.

Marco overseeing Gabe when he's in the medical tent during the first stages of his treatment. The poor kid is scared and clammy, clutching his favorite stuffed alligator like a life ring and staining the sheets with his tears. So Marco distracts him with a story about the first time he treated Crocodile when they were apprentices on the Moby Dick. It was an experience that made Marco realize he might have what it takes to be a doctor, even long before he got his Devil Fruit.
If there’s anything to be known about Marco- aside from the whole phoenix thing- it’s that his bedside manner with kids is top notch. His storytelling skills are incredible, and in true bird fashion, he does amazing vocal impressions.
The first time he treated Crocodile was for a sprained ankle, and the story behind it was always a fond one.
He tells Gabe about how one of the islands they used to dock at had a type of marine iguana that got as big as mountain wolves, and how- when he was thirteen and Crocodile was fourteen- they tried to befriend one.
He gets on the foot of the bed and lays on it like the lizard had on the rocks that day, tells him about how it turned to look at Crocodile when he got too close… and- with a phoenix fire demonstration- snorted sea salt right in his face!
He drops off the end of the bed and to the floor, like Crocodile fell right on his butt in the shallows that day, his ankle turning wrong in the process.
Gabriel is shrieking with so much laughter that his feathers are all fluffed up.

Pride march characters, finally decided:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Svana Darkshadow, Genderqueer
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kevara Doomhunter, Sapphic Lesbian flag
I'm questioning a lot of my gender and sexuality again, and I think "genderqueer" is vague enough to work for me, but I don't really know what sexuality I am. I think maybe biromantic lesbian, but I'm not sure, because I think I'm also demi-sexual, so I don't really know for sure what my sexuality is. The queer wiki says the sapphic lesbian flag includes nonbinary/genderqueer lesbians, ace lesbians, and questioning lesbians, so I think that one might be the best flag for me. I chose Kevara for that one, because she is also questioning her sexuality, and is in love with her warband-mate, who is patiently waiting for Kevara to be ready to date one day. I chose Svana because they don't get enough playtime and I think they're very pretty.

238 - Mary Magdalene
Tumblr media
We talk about awards hopes thwarted by release date pushes, and this week is the mother of all of them. Originally intended as Garth Davis’ speedy follow-up to Lion for Thanksgiving 2017, Mary Magdalene cast Rooney Mara as the biblical woman and Joaquin Phoenix as Jesus. The film reexamines Mary Magdalene role among the disciples and how history has viewed her, and attempts a feminist perspective to biblical narratives. But shortly after it wasn’t announced for any fall festival lineups, the film was pushed to Easter 2018. When the Weinstein expose arrived, the film was then caught in US distribution limbo, arriving on schedule overseas but not seeing (few) American theatres until 2019.
This episode, we talk about Davis’ success with Lion in the 2016 season and our hopes for his upcoming Satires Ronan starrer Foe. We also discuss Joe’s Catholic upbringing and knowledge, how Jesus would’ve handled social media, and the chances Mara would have had in the Best Actress race had the film arrived in its original season.
Topics also include Phoenix’s whole vibe, MANY music references, and Hot Judas.
